Welcome to the Garden.

The land was owned by a local farmer, who
used it as a cow pasture for his animals during the summer
months.
After we acquired the land the thought to create a garden
slowly took form and it required time to reach our goal
,but the transformation from cow pasture to garden took on
contours.
With great effort and energy our dream turned
to reality. A fence was installed and a decorative white
painted gate added. The next problem was the supply of water
needed to care for the plants.
Bob ,with shovel, bucket and long ladder
proceeded to dig a well, seven meters deep, and finished the
inside-and outside with local rocks, that were dug up while
working in the well. It took him two years to complete the
job. The well supplies enough water to tend to the flowers,
shrubs and trees.
The next project was a small pond and it
took only a short time before water lilies were growing
in the deep water ,while frogs and other amphibians settled
in and water insects hover over the water and keep the
garden abounding with life. A small pump generating solar
power creates a peaceful atmosphere.
The pine trees have grown into a small forest
in some parts of the garden and act as a protection against
the cold winter storms of the Vogelsberg.
Bob and I accepted the challenge of the
volcanic region and planted many roses and their companion
plants, like Lavender, Sage Larkspur and many more.
Our efforts were rewarded. Old type roses
like Maiden’s Blush or Ispahan and English Roses from David
Austin, but also modern roses are thriving in this
Vogelsberg climate.
Over the years the former pasture has
developed into a beautiful rose garden.
During the summer months, visitors are
welcome, (by appointment,) to enjoy with us the beauty of
the garden.
